Barkley also revealed that he very nearly didn’t play at all at the King Power Stadium. He didn’t train with the rest of the squad at all in the week, not until the day before the game, but having arrived at Leicester on Sunday and coming through the warm-up, he was able to complete 90 minutes. Barkley, as a result, dedicated his winner to the club doctor and celebrated on the touch-line with the Villans’ back-room staff. “I’ve had a difficult week, I hadn’t been able to train all week,” Barkley revealed. “I struggled on Saturday in training, and I was 50-50 [to take part]. “I went into the game and in the warm-up I felt really good. The doc said to me you’ll end up scoring before the game, and I did, so I just dedicated it to him because he worked really hard with me this week.”
