Breaking News ! Aston Villa have reportedly asked for Sunday's game against Everton to be postponed because of the coronavirus outbreak at the club's Bodymoor Heath training centre. Yesterday it was being reported that the match, scheduled for noon on Sunday having already been pencilled in for Saturday evening, was likely to be postponed. The Mirror claimed that the game was in jeopardy of not going ahead and then, later on Tuesday night, the Telegraph reported that Villa had requested the Premier League that the match be postponed. Now The Guardian are reporting that Villa have asked for a postponement with head coach Dean Smith, his coaching staff and the first team still in isolation. Villa released a statement on Thursday, less than 48 hours before their cup game, confirming that a 'significant outbreak' had occurred within the club. "Aston Villa can confirm that the Club has closed its Bodymoor Heath training ground after a significant Coronavirus outbreak," it said. "A large number of first team players and staff returned positive tests after being routinely tested on Monday and immediately went into isolation. “PHE has given advice on the management of the Covid-19 cases at Aston Villa,” the body is reported as saying. “This has involved detailed and independent assessment of the cases and their close contacts. “PHE provides the same (or equivalent) advice to all workplaces on managing a Covid outbreak, and where appropriate would recommend a review of their infection control processes and compliance with these.”
