MetiNews.Com - The comic whose birthday 'always' coincides with him being on the Channel 4 show was greeted with a cake as part of Stand Up to Cancer campaign
Breaking News ! Comedian James Acaster was greeted with the ultimate "birthday" present when he appeared on Sunday Brunch - a cake of his own face. The cake handcrafted by Berkshire baker Kerry Smith was presented to James when he appeared on the Channel 4 show on Sunday, October 25, despite it not actually being his birthday. In fact, James' birthday is in January, but there is a long-running gag that he always says it is his birthday when he he appears on the show. Kerry, who owns Winnersh -based The Berkshire Bakesmith, explains she got in on the gag after she was contacted by Stand Up for Cancer charity who commissioned her to bake James' face. The skilled baker has made many unique cakes, including a sewing machine and a camera, but to create the face of the red-haired comic was something of a challenge. She said: "It was the first time I've ever done a human face. "I was actually fully booked too, so had to squeeze it in around other work. "Nonetheless, I managed to do it. I like a challenge and I think James is a brilliant comedian, so I really wanted to do something for him." She admitted she was nervous to see how he'd react, but was ultimately relieved when he said he "loved" the vanilla Madeira sponge cake, the inside of which was coloured bright orange at the request of the charity. The shows hosts Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer presented James with the cake as the show started. James, who appeared on Stand Up to Cancer's The Great Celebrity Bake Off, said: "I love it. Thanks very much Kerry. "We can see how skilful she is, which makes it even more of an insult. "We can see how good she is at icing and making things look like people, so she could have made it look just like me, but instead, she's gone 'that's what I think of you mate.'"
